iOS 8 a breeze of fresh air for the iPhone camera

September 2014

Longing for more camera control than the iPhone was offering I seriously considered to buy a “real” non-DSLR camera again this summer – mainly to regain unlimited focus and shutter control. Having played with iOS 8 for a few days now I don’t quite see the need anymore to go back to a dedicated camera – I got what I missed. I’ve always liked the iPhone better than other smartphones for reporting; now it’s an even more serious camera option. If your iPhone can digest iOS 8 I recommend to do the update. So much fun to play with unrestricted blur, focus and light moods.

More and more photo apps are being updated to reflect the new iOS capabilities (Pro Camera, Camera Plus or VSCO to name a few). I’m currently shooting with Manual Cam and I love the clean, dark interface with a touch control wheel that makes for easily tweaking shutter speed, ISO and focus. Manual Cam has live filters, too; so everything is under control before hitting the button.
